Country & Western
This year’s grand finale event of the Festival
invites you to kick off your shoes and take your partners
by the hand for another unforgettable night of music
and dancing ‘1950s Country and Western’
style. The Green Fair marquee will be opening its canvas
doors (next to the new Francis Peak Building, beside
the car park in Dulwich Park) for the evenings ‘Swinging
Hullabaloo’. It will be a barn dance with a difference
(not in the traditional sense with a ‘caller’)
- but one that invites it’s audience to hear the
best Western Swing music this side of Texas and a chance
to watch and join in with sensational dancers till the
cows come home. Los Pistoleros – will be playing
an upbeat mixture of Western Swing, Rhythm and blues,
honky tonk, and cajun music. The band will be led by
the legendary Bobby Valentino on vocals and fiddle (also
a Clark Gable lookalike!), BJ Cole on the Pedal Steel,
Jim Russell on drums, and Martin Belmont & Kevin
Foster on Guitar.
DJ Big Green Trev will also be serenading the crowds
with his sweet swinging folk tunes throughout the evening.
Event organiser Hayley Redmond says “Every year
the Festival has a party to celebrate the success of
the week’s events and over the past two year’s
they have been sell out’s, as well as true communal
experiences. Ticket holders always join in with the
spirit of the occasion by taking time to dress up in
their vintage attire (50s Country & Western this
year) and making the most of the best in entertainment
that never usually gets a chance to come to Dulwich.
This year the Marquee will be styled as a country barn
with lanterns and fairy lights, hay bales and a huge
dance floor infront of the stage. Food and drink will
also be served and prepared in the traditional country
manner. It will be a stunner and I definitely reccommend
buying tickets as soon as possible!”
